STROOP

Memory refers to object slots, a doubly-linked list that holds objects in the game.[1] In the game, there are 240 or less object slots. There are 2 classes of objects: important objects, and unimportant objects. Unimportant objects are effects, such as the stars when bonking off of a wall, smoke from lava, etc.

Every level has its own limit. It's always either 240, or slightly below 240.

  • If the object limit is reached, and an important object is trying to load, the game will check if there is an unimportant object available. If there is, then the unimportant object will sacrifice its slot for the important object.
  • If an (un)important object with the object limit reached, and there are no unimportant objects, that's when the game freezes.
